biography

Martin was surrounded in music from an early age, but it wasn’t until he heard the early sounds of dance music that he became an obsessive collector of music. Over the next few years Martin spent much of his money buying (and a lot of time listening to) all sorts of dance music, but it was house that he latched on to.

University gave Martin the chance to embed himself further into the scene and a student loan gave him the chance to buy his first set of decks. With an already sizable catalogue at his disposal he began learning his trade. Gigs didn’t take long to come along either, after only 6 weeks of owning his new '1s & 2s' he was spinning at a University organised summer party. Throughout University Martin DJ’ed at club nights, DJ competitions and (now infamous) house parties. Martin’s sound also developed over this time, from a fairly commercial trance sound to a deeper, more progressive sound, inspired by DJ’s such as Sasha and John Digweed.

Since 2002 Martin’s stature as a DJ has continued to grow. In 2003 he flew over to Washington and DJ’ed for Code at Nation - which at the time was America’s #1 venue. That night he warmed up for Lisa Loud and Lee-Cabrera’s Steve Lee. Another highlight was in 2004 when Martin progressed through to a heat of the Gallery’s DJ Competition where he got the opportunity to DJ at Turnmills in London.

Since 2003 Martin has establish himself in the local club scene and on the radio. In 2004 Martin played his first gig at Route in Colchester, this was to be the first of many over the next 15 months - only coming to an end because of the club's change in music policy. On the radio Martin has been involved in providing hours of quality mix sessions, especially online for stations such as Frisky, DI, XM Radio, Satellite and on his own shows on RiseFM.com and SSRadioUK.com.

In 2006 pushed ahead with more gigs in and around the local area, playing in the main room at Route in Colchester for Gloss and regular guest slots at the Hub Bar, again in Colchester. Towards the end of 2006 Martin set up Klik alongside another local DJ, Rossi. Together they promoted club nights in Ipswich and hosted a regular show on SS Radio UK before putting Klik on pause in mid 2007.

In late 2007 Martin played his first gig at Qube, a brand new, late night bar in Colchester - complete with a Function One sound system! He's been Saturday resident ever since, playing long 6 hour sets of deep and funky house music.
